Little Blue Dress

Nine times out of ten you will find me wearing heels, but every now and then I will give my feet a break and wear flats, which are usually ornate in some kind of way. I've been extra tired and sore this week so flats seemed like a smart choice. Plus, heels would have made this hemline a little risque for the workplace. I also realized that this look and yesterday's are pretty much the same thing: simple dress, fun flats, statement necklace, and a bold lip. But you know what they say, "if it ain't broke, don't fix

Tripod Trials

I almost didn't post this look or these pictures because as you might notice, the tripod wanted to take the stage and it appears in almost every shot. But then I decided it'd be funny to share my struggles as a blogger, trust me, I know that might sound kind of silly. I don't mean struggles as in "I can't find the perfect shoes," or "my blacks don't match," although those are very real issues. I'm talking about the struggles that manifest when you decide to document your life, even those aspects that seem silly like what you're wearing or what you ate. I haven't been at this for long and every time I get dressed or take a picture, it's a learning opportunity. Right now I'm just having fun but I can't say that I wouldn't want blogging or something fashion-related to be my career. I mean, even Drake started from the bottom. So until I get a steady photographer or remember how to set up the tripod properly, I'll take every moment in stride. I hope you enjoy these funny pictures, I looked so serious, but the tripod shadow just makes me giggle. With all that being said, and I said a lot, this was an easy and fun look for me. I think I just picked out all my favorites and luckily they worked together.

I've been m.i.a. from the blog for a few days and I know it was just killing you all. I kid, I kid. I spent a few days in D.C. last week, no worries, I will share soon. I'm getting back into the swing of things, even though I'm never quite sure what that means for me. Anywho, this is not only one of my favorite Kate Spade dresses, but one of my favorite dresses in general. I love the print, the colors, the cut, everything. A few people at church tried to make offers for this dress but I'm not even close to wanting to let it go.

Off The Grid

If you've been reading the blog at all, you might know that I love shift and t-shirt dresses. I love them so much that I often just search for those dresses online. My obsession is real. Evidence here, here, and here. I sound like a broken record but they're so comfortable and flattering, I love not having to worry about if fabric is hugging something I don't want it to (we've all been there). Also, the title of this post is very much inspired by Weeds. I know I'm like a million years behind, but I've been watching it on Netflix for the past few weeks and it's safe to say I'm very obsessed. The "off the grid" reference is from when they were hiding out and on the run. I'm almost done watching and I think I'm going to be a little sad when it ends.

Well, my mom is officially on a sewing kick and I could not be happier. I came home after rehearsal to find her sewing away, making this adorable skirt. I love the colors and the stripes, it reminds me of 1060's wallpaper, but in a good way.

Made With Love

When my two sisters and I were younger, my mom sewed all of our clothes. I'm not exaggerating, for a good portion of our lives she made over 50% of our clothes. She made dresses, rompers, and tops, bottoms, and everything in between. She would even take leftover fabric from whatever item she was sewing to make matching bows and purses. We also spent countless numbers inside Hancock Fabrics and Hobby Lobby, looking through pattern books and scurrying to pull them from the file cabinets. That being said, I can rightfully blame my mom for my obsession with clothing, shoes, and accessories. If any little girl spends a good amount of time looking at a book filled with clothes and has a mom who can sew for days, she just might develop an addiction like mine. I'm ecstatic that my mom is getting back into sewing, she loves it and we love getting custom made clothing. After a few hours in Hancock Fabrics, we found the perfect pattern and this lovely fabric. She started making this dress at night and it was ready to wear by the morning. How awesome is that? It was like free express shipping.

And how awesome is this necklace I found in Lane Bryant? I find baubles everywhere.

Top Ten Tuesday: Lip Color Edition

It's Top Ten Tuesday!!

In the past few years I have fallen madly in love with lip colors. For a long time I hated the way lipstick looked on me, I felt as if my lips were too big and that the colors clashed with my brown skin. I soon learned that most women yearn for full lips, so badly that they even suffer injections and procedures to get the lips that I was trying to hide. And as far as thinking that brightly hued lipsticks and my chocolate-brown skin had no business together, I also learned that the pigmentation in my skin allowed me to wear deeper, bolder colors. This lovely lady pretty much sums up my feelings in this video. Now I wear my bright pinks and vampy purples with no remorse, it took a while to feel comfortable but I realize that black girls wear lipstick too, heck anyone can, it's all about finding the colors that complement your skin tone. With that being said, here are ten of my favorite lip colors; the colors in the top row are a little more subtle while those on the bottom row pack a little more punch. All are great shades and formulas!
